"Whats All About Class Filicinae?"

Whats all about class filicinae?

Class filicinae is a group of pteridophytes that have around 10,000 species of tropical plants called ferns which can be distinguished by their characterized fronds.

These ferns carry their spores on the underside of their fronds in a casing called sori. Class filicinae can be divided into two subclasses, namely:

  • Leptosporangiatae - ferns which sporangium develop from only a single cell, and
  • Eusporangiatae - which the sporangium develops from multiple cells.

These ferns can be usually found in moist or damp environments with ample sunlight received.
